Pine Cottage

Bed and Breakfast

Portloe

Portloe is a tiny, unspoilt, fishing village on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall. It lies, equidistant, 12 miles from Truro and St. Austell on the South Coast. Here in the Roseland, life is peaceful. We have miles of unspoilt coastline with wild flowers and bird life and beautiful coves and beaches. When you come to Portloe you leave behind the hustle and bustle of daily life - (even mobile phones do not work in the village!) - and find yourself in a place where time almost stands still.

Pine Cottage

Pine Cottage is lovely old house with a wonderful garden and an outlook over the valley to the cliff tops. The harbour is about five hundred yards away. We have glimpses of the sea through the trees in the garden and the ever present sounds of the stream below. We welcome guests to bed and breakfast and to come and go at any time of the day. We like guests to share our sitting room or to use chairs and seats around the garden whenever they please.

Before coming to Pine Cottage, Clare Holdsworth ran Tregain restaurant and Bed and Breakfast in the village. Tregain was twice awarded Best Restaurant in Cornwall and chosen as Editor’s Choice in the Which? Good Food Guide. Breakfast here is very important to us. We make every effort to serve organic or locally produced cereals, yoghurt, milk, butter, juices, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms.  We serve home made jam and marmalade and a warm compote of exotic fruits whenever possible.

Local Pubs and Restaurants

In the village we have a pub which serves good food and a hotel with a restaurant, both within walking distance.  Nearby there are various pubs and restaurants, all serving a variety of good food, especially local fish and seafood.  We are very happy to make dinner bookings for you.

Truro is our local shopping centre (12 miles) and with it’s cathedral and county museum, some excellent restaurants and many small specialist shops, it is a lovely place to spend a day.
